Before leaving for Ireland, I heard many warnings about its weather. I have been to Dublin twice before but each time (in Late July and late August) and the weather was perfect, the locals told my family and I we bought the good weather with us and that we must stay forever. Maybe this recent trip has changed my luck. It is mid-June and since I’ve arrived it has done nothing but rain. So I went on a quest for a rain coat. I brought everything with me on this trip – a smile, open mind, an umbrella, and plenty of zip-up jackets (some hooded, some not). But I soon realized after 8 days of rain that I needed a rain jacket.
The weather is tricky. For about 8 days straight there was some sort of rain when we woke in the morning but by the time we left for class, around 9:30am, it had stopped and only the ground was wet. Occasionally leaving class around 12ish or even on our class tours there would be light sprinkles. The weather here is crazy!!! At times I don't even know if I should wear sneakers or sandals. At home in the States if the weather changed this much I would have gotten sick, so I am surprised that I haven’t yet. But now I am always prepared with an umbrella, hooded sweat jacket, and a realization that at any second it could rain. I finally found a rain coat for 13 euros from the discount store Penny’s. But where has it sat for the past 4 days? In my closet because it hasn’t down poured enough again to need it. In some twist of irony I still need the original hooded clothes I brought with me. But I do anticipate rain in the future; it’s the natural weather here and helps to make everything so green.
